14 Somewhat Amusing but Hopeful Insights for Life in 2020

2020: "When Time's a Maniac Scattering Dust" 

In case someone is composing a song or writing a book about the events of 2020, here's a great title that I believe captures the calamity, disaster, and upset of this tumultuous year. 

2020: God's powerful and timely reminder that human beings are not pathetic babes in the woods, but mutinous people.

2020: Up until this year the mood of many churchgoers has been either healthy-minded or pathetic and feeble.  The judgments and disasters described in the Bible didn't seem to have anything to do with us.  God decided that in 2020 it would be good to have the veil lifted to let us know what we would be like if Jesus Christ had not died.

2020: Although 2020 seems to be dealing volcanic destruction in every domain of our lives, God will always reveal a little spring of the clear pure water of life that is a  great strengthening to His children.  What have been your little springs so far this year?

2020: The joy of the Lord is to be your strength in 2020 - NOT our joy in God, but the joy of God; our strength is in the fact that in 2020 we know God rules and rejoices. 

2020:  The divine sovereignty of God has allowed Satan  and human beings liberty in 2020.  And, the margins or limits of that liberty are known only to God.  

2020:  To remember that the devil is not the power behind God, but a power allowed by God makes a great difference in our attitude to the chaotic happenings of life in 2020.

2020: Slogans, songs, posts, and tweets about God restoring and blessing our country in 2020 often cause us to be caught up with the trick of asking God to do what we have to do.

2020: If we don't keep on the fighting line that God has drawn in our personal relationship with Him, we will suffer a relapse and be taken by storm in 2020 by the very powers we ought to have overcome - vain imaginings about God, empty daydreams, spiritual wool-gathering, and self-absorption that we have not plucked out.  Don't forget to wash our hearts as well as our hands so that we don't allow virus germs or vain thoughts to lodge in us. 

2020: Facebook and Twitter have revealed that it is quite easy as a disciple to be in agreement with the Lord over everything but His personal authority over our lives.

2020: Beware of exploiting the Lord to suit our volatile and hypersensitive temperaments. 

2020:  Those calamities of 2020 that have left us bitter are deserved somewhere.

2020:  Whether in the heat of a presidential election or a social justice movement, or even in the war over toilet paper or the wearing of masks, 2020 can definitely be characterized by "infatuation" - allowing for the affectionate insanity of a wrong relationship. 

2020:  Desperate tides of the whole great world's anguish forced through the channels of a single heart.  Let 2020 be the great moment of your life when you identify with God and allow His point of view to be clearly brought out.  

2020 seen from God's standpoint is a portrayal of the cost to God in His own heart when His people turn away from Him.
